Areas of Practice
Andrew C. Shier
For 20 years, Andrew Shier has represented a wide range of clients in lawsuits including commercial contracts, business disputes and real estate. He also helps banks and other commercial creditors overcome the often complex issues that arise when businesses struggle and fail. He has extensive experience representing local banks as they work through and resolve all aspects of troubled loan relationships, including forbearance arrangements, enforcement actions, real estate foreclosures, asset surrenders, liquidation sales and (not surprisingly) bankruptcy.
Andrew frequently works with creditors to evaluate, secure, or enforce their rights, both through the courts and otherwise. When companies collapse, he advises affected vendors and creditors regarding their economic options and helps them chart a sensible path forward. Often, he will help his clients navigate the complicated and sometimes confounding Bankruptcy Code in order to maximize any recovery. Andrew has also been involved with a number of very successful state-court receivership actions.
Andrew uses his experience and insight to help clients find practical and pragmatic solutions. Ever attentive to the bottom line, he strives to deliver not only high-quality legal services to his clients, but also to provide genuine value.
Andrew is a partner with McShane & Bowie, PLC in Grand Rapids and is chairperson of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids, as well as long-distance running.
